To others, it&#8217;s just the city of their existence.<span id="more-6190"></span> North Brooklyn gets a bad rep these days, laying claim to Williamsburg and Greenpoint &#8211; so called &#8220;Hipster Heaven.&#8221;</p>
<p>But many have inhabited this area of &#8220;BK&#8221; for generations, and it shows when you stumble upon their automobiles. The people of New York City are the proudest you will ever meet, that goes double for outer borough residents. They hold tight to civic pride, love of community, and to memories &#8211; including their classic automobiles.</p>
<p>Take a walk (or fixed gear bike ride) around North Brooklyn, and you&#8217;ll see many old school vehicles park on gritty (or not so much) NY streets.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/7043205381707_ORIG.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6192" title="Chevy Nova" src="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/7043205381707_ORIG.jpeg" alt="" width="560" height="419" /></a></p>
<p>A slightly-dropped Chevy Nova in Greenpoint.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/1043205381765_ORIG.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6201" title="1043205381765_ORIG" src="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/1043205381765_ORIG.jpeg" alt="" width="560" height="419" /></a></p>
<p>This rusty roadster probably hasn&#8217;t moved from its spot off Meeker Ave in decades.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/5043205956910_ORIG.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6198" title="5043205956910_ORIG" src="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/5043205956910_ORIG.jpeg" alt="" width="560" height="420" /></a></p>
<p>Always parked in the same spot at a school bus depot is this classic 1957 Chevy Bel Air.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3043205956872_ORIG.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6197" title="3043205956872_ORIG" src="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3043205956872_ORIG.jpeg" alt="" width="560" height="340" /></a></p>
<p>NY-proud Ford Mustang hangs out off the BQE.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/2043205956851_ORIG.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6194" title="2043205956851_ORIG" src="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/2043205956851_ORIG.jpeg" alt="" width="560" height="419" /></a></p>
<p>In Williamsburg, someone has a very well maintained Ford Fairlane&#8230;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/43205129508_ORIG.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6196" title="43205129508_ORIG" src="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/43205129508_ORIG.jpeg" alt="" width="560" height="316" /></a></p>
<p>&#8230;and in Greenpoint, another Fairlane!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/1043205129530_ORIG.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6195" title="1043205129530_ORIG" src="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/1043205129530_ORIG.jpeg" alt="" width="560" height="748" /></a></p>
<p>Can&#8217;t go wrong with a deep purple Plymouth. You can bet there will be more shots of this ride coming to blog posts!</p>

<p>&#8220;Our past is a powerful draw and in so many ways we try to capture it in order to explain it to ourselves,&#8221; says Smith. &#8220;What started out as an exercise in model building and photography, ended up as a dream-like reconstruction of the town I grew up in. No Photoshop was used in these pictures. Its all straight from the camera. It’s the oldest trick in the special effects book: line up a model with an appropriate background and shoot.&#8221;</p>

It&#8217;s not just any car you&#8217;d find at some random <a href="http://www.mossymotors.com">New Orleans used car dealer</a> &#8211; this &#8217;64 Impala may disintegrate, but its glory will never fade.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/impala1.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-4555 alignleft" title="impala1" src="http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/impala1.jpg" alt="" width="559" height="419" /></a></p>

<p>The car comes from a <a href="http://jalopnik.com/318895/down-on-the-new-orleans-street-1964-impala">Jalopnik</a> reader named Jim, who lives near the French Quarter of New Orleans. According to Jim; &#8220;This &#8217;64 Impala is driven regularly by an elderly lady who lives right on Bourbon Street, but in the relatively quiet, residential end of the French Quarter. It has been a fixture of the French Quarter in New Orleans for decades. It has even shown up in a coffee table book of N.O. and been snapped innumerable times by tourists. One day a few years ago I saw her out on the street crying (it was heartbreaking!) as the Chevy was being towed off and I thought that was the end of it. But it showed back up a week or two later and has been out and about ever since. I doubt the rear driver side window has ever been cleaned &#8211; it&#8217;s nearly opaque.&#8221;</p>

These all exist in harmony with one another, just as hot rods &amp; pinup girls do!<span id="more-1546"></span> It&#8217;s Friday, and we want to head out to some rockabilly show in our &#8217;39 Ford with a Bettie Paige lookalike on our arms. There isn&#8217;t much else we can say, except &#8220;please enjoy a gratuitous post featuring hot cars and gorgeous pinup models!&#8221; Don&#8217;t worry, all the ladies are clothed, though some of the shots may still be a little NSFW.</p>
