The LBGT (don’t forget those who identify as Queer!) like any other group have a love for certain car makes & models. Our pals over at Gaywheels.com have continually hunted down the gay-friendly (and not-so-much) auto makers and specific vehicles loved by both gay men and lesbians across America. And in honor of National Coming Out Day (Which was yesterday, Oct. 11th) we are taking a look at the 10 Most Gay-Friendly cars, at least as far as 2009 is concerned.

First off – here’s a quick overview of Gaywheel’s findings on what Gays and Lesbians feel are the most pro-queer makes:

Now here’s a look at the top researched cars by LGBT consumers so far in 2009:

1. VW Rabbit

Volkswagen stole the top five with three sporty vehicles this year, the Rabbit/Golf, Eos and Jetta, all of which tend to be a staple of the Queer-friendly car shopping list. Whether you have two or four doors VW’s little wonder is a continuous hit.

2. Audi R8

Audi R8 has crept up the list for gay buyers, and with the need for horse power and fuel economy Audi can’t be beat.

3. VW Eos

VW’s new Cabriolet is a two-door drop top that has just as much power under the hood as a Rabbit.

4. VW Jetta

Jetta also pops up with LGBT consumers – the latest model rounds off VW’s attack on the top five results for 2009.

5. Volvo C30

Volvo’s small three-door hatchback is one strange vehicle from the auto maker. But it’s original styling and sporty construction have been a hit in recently automotive buyer research.

6. Mercedes-Benz E-Class

E-Class has come under some pressure with their apparent misleading advertisements in the UK – though you can’t doubt the love for their 2009 model.

7. Saab 9-3

Saab and the 9-3 Aero, new for 2009, has struck interest in car buyers and makes it’s first hit on the list for 2009.

8. Nissan Quest

Nissan’s minivan is the largest vehicle vehicle to make it onto this charts, and why not – it’s a fast ride with room for an extended family. It’s also Nissan’s only model on the list.

9. Toyota Yaris

Since its induction Yaris has been a popular make researched by the gay community. In 2009, it remains in the top top most researched and most purchased.

10. Mazda MAZDA3

Mazda always gets at least one nod in the top searches for LGBTQ car research – this year it finishes off our top ten with the MAZDA3 – also one of the fastest selling Mazda cars in the past year.

2008 brought us some of the sexiest cars and future concepts from the automotive world. Money may be tight but that doesn’t stop some of the best luxury and sports car manufacturers from wowing us, as they did this past year. We take a look at some famous names from the auto industry and what they shared with car enthusiasts in 2008.

Lamborghini Reventón

Lambo’s new Reventon started as a daring concept, but made its way to the production line and car show floor in 2008. This grasshopper-like front end, constructed from carbon fibers and based off jet fighter design, catches you eye and brings you back to the transparent rear motor cover. This compartment contains a 6.5 liter V12 with 650 hp @ 8000 rpm.

Maserati GranTurismo

The 2008 Maserati GranTurismo is a breathtaking automobile, with strength underneath the body to knock your socks off. It’s powered by the classic Maserati 4.2-liter V8, pumping out 405 horsepower and a widely spread 339 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is about 178 mph with 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds.

Shelby GT500 Mustang

Shelby’s Supercharged Mustang GT500 is not only the star of the new Knight Rider TV series, it maintains a 5.4-liter V-8 engine, which comes out with 500 horsepower (go figure) and 480 lb-ft. of torque. The stainless steel dual exhaust adds to the sexiness of this American made automobile.

Peugeot 308 RC Z

Peugeot doesn’t just make fantastic road bike – they also produce some of the fastest and hottest French sports cars the planet has ever seen. Their 308 RC Z concept for 2008 claims to “combine performance with driving pleasure.”

Rolls-Royce 101EX Coupe

Rolls came out with their 100EX convertible and it was such a success they introduces a coupe version – the Rolls-Royce 101EX. Like the original concept, 101EX is built using the an aluminum frame construction, much like their Phantom limousine. This Rolls is also powered by the Phantom’s 6.75-liter V-12.

Audi R8

The 4.2-liter V8 engine makes 420 horsepower and 317 lb-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm, and it drives a standard six-speed manual transmission; an optional sequential manual transmission is also available.

Ferrari F430

Ferrari is tops when it comes to Italian auto engineering. Their 430 for 2008 boosts its power in its engine to a 4.3-liter V-8 giving 520 horsepower.

Mercedes-Benz SLK350

Mercedes SLK350 is one hot sports convertible. It’s 305-hp 3.5-liter V6 kicks the ass of much of its competition, and sleek style with state of the art interior designs make it a darling of the German auto industry.

Cadillac Escalade

The Escalade has been infamous since the days of Tony Soprano driving his around Northern New Jersey. Cadillac upped the ante with their Hybrid version (complete with V8 Flexfuel engine) for 2008.

Porsche GT2

Porsche is really stirring interest with their future Panamera four-door coupe – but this past year the auto maker introduced a new Porsche 997 Turbo – dubbed the GT2. With 530 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of torque under its (rear) hood you can expect to reach 100 mph in roughly 7 seconds.
