Obama Passes Gas… Ratings

This week, President Barack Obama unveiled the 2017 – 2025 fuel economy standards for all vehicles going on sale in the United States. Almost doubled, the requirements put average combined mpg ratings at 54.5 mpg. The Big Three Detroit auto makers, Chrysler, Chevy, and Ford, get a break with SUV mileage.

The Obama administration lowered its proposal from initial 56.2 mpg by 2025, adding only a 3.5% annual increases in light trucks through 2021. That is much less than the 5% annual increases for passenger cars during the same period.

According to reports, “Detroit’s Big Three and at least four other major automakers were haggling over final details.” We’ll see if you’ll be able to take that 1995 S10 Blazer out for a drive without getting evil looks by youngsters soon.
