Carmageddon Hits Los Angeles
The 405 will be shut down over the weekend near Los Angeles – and all hell will break loose. Officials are performing much needed repairs on the most heavily traveled highway in North America. But some are predicting the traffic jam could stretch all the way to the Mexican Border. Adios! The media, with its talent for catchy names, is calling it “Carmageddon.”
Many travel companies are using this as an excuse to promote catchy travel deals. JetBlue Airways will offer two flights between Burbank and Long Beach to circumvent the closure. The $4 flight takes just 20 minutes and covers a distance of 37 miles.
JetBlue spokeswoman Sharon Jones told the LA Times: “We thought this would be a fun and unique idea. We looked at it as a way to introduce our product to customers who have never joined JetBlue.”
