Earthquake, Tsunami Hit Japan

japan tsunami earthquake

An 8.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Japan earlier today, causing a huge tsunami wave that has closed down the entire country. So far, an estimated 200 to 300 people have been killed by this natural disaster. Two hours after the initial shock came an aftershock measuring 7.1 magnitude occurred. Residents were immediately evacuated to high ground. Tsunami waves have also hit the coast of Hawaii, with little to no damage reported. Those along California’s and Oregon’s coastline should also brace for a smaller tsunami hit.

Automotive production throughout Japan has been paused. One Honda employee was killed when the tsunami hit land. Check out this frightening video (via Jalopnik.com) of the tsunami wave sliding through one of Japan’s airports.

Our best goes out to all survivors and those in connection to anyone struggling with this disaster.
