Common Auto Repair Scam Tactics
There’s always this notion that car repair centers are “out to get you.” Certainly this isn’t true as there are many very reputable service centers out there. A great way to find the best is the old fashioned way, ask around. Ask you friends and family if they like their car repair guy/gal, or if they’ve seen a lot of the below when they bring their vehicle in. Ask enough people and you may find a trend. Oh, and there’s this thing little called Facebook you can also use to ask people.
So what are some of the more common scams to be looking out for, and asking your connections if they see?
“Found” Problems
This is where you bring your car in for an oil change, for example, and suddenly you’re being told there’s a bunch of work that needs to be done on your car. Sometimes these unscrupulous car repair centers will tease you in to their shop with great discounts on oil changes, state inspections, alignments, etc. Once you’re there, your once running-well vehicle is at death’s door.
Not Maintaining Your Vehicle
Some repair centers might not tell you that your transmission fluid needs to be replaced, even if the fluid is called “lifetime”. They do this hoping you’ll go to them to replace your transmission (mucho dinero). Make sure you read your vehicle’s manual to understand what to replace/replenish and when to do it.
Used Parts
Most of us just trust the parts being used in our vehicle’s repairs are new. Unfortunately though, the less trustworthy shops will place used parts in your car. That means you’re more likely to run into the same or similar problem in the near future. Gain an understanding of where the work is being done so you can check the part yourself, or ask to see it in the shop. If it looks greasy, it ain’t new.
Hopefully those things will help you find a great repair center.

Car repair shop should provide honest, reliable, and affordable maintenance and services to a wide range of customers in an area. It should specialize in a variety of innovative solutions, efficient customer service, latest technology, and good prices.
A reference is a great thing to do to be able to assure yourself on any doubt to any auto mechanic you hired to repair your car.
