Welcome to Detroit and the Robocop Statue

Welcome to Detroit – soon to be home of the Robocop Statue. Fans of the city, and Peter Weller’s scifi kill-spree film, are raising money to bring this creation to Motor City:

And why shouldn’t Detroit have a statue based on a fictional character? Philadelphia sees tourists from around the world come to their centuries-old Art Museum and stand in front of Rocky Balboa (Yes, Philadelphian’s, Rocky wasn’t a documentary).

But the Mayor of Detroit, Dave Bing (no relation to the search engine) says no! Well, he said no to the statue via a Tweet earlier this week: “There are not any plans to erect a statue to Robocop. Thank you for your suggestion.” Maybe Bing should concentrate on other pressing MoTown concerns, like the city’s intensely crippling poverty and mass amount of violence/ murder.

Robocop’s sculpture is gaining more press each day, and as of Tuesday, Feb. 22nd – it’s only $25,000 away from coming to life on the streets of a city this half-man/half-cyborg once patrolled.

“Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.”
