Europe’s Gay Car & Gay Brand of the Year

Europe's Gay Car Brand of the Year

For last 5 years, LGBT consumers throughout Europe were asked to choose their favorite vehicle brands and models. Europe’s Gay Auto Enthusiasts site, Ledorga, sets up the pool each year, combining several bits of criteria in order to help buyers choose:

Any new car model that appears on the market between 1st of January and 31st of December of the Year T-1 will be eligible for the European Gay Car of the Year Award in the year T. Thus, a car model that was introduced on the market for the first time in the year 2005 will be nominated for the 2006 election. It is an open competition, so all body types are accepted, whether saloon, coupé, convertible, family car, estate, roadster et cetera. Excluded are commercial vehicles and renovations of existing models. The word European in title of this election implies also that nominated models have to be marketed in Europe, thus models that are not imported or distributed in the Old World.

I like how they refer to themselves as “old world” – as we in the “new” world of America are stuck with the same Chevrolet trucks in Dallas or a used Nissan’s in Phoenix.

This year’s winner went to Citroen for most Gay Friendly Brand and the new Fiat 500 for Favorite Gay Car. Which is good news for American Gays, Straights and everyone who Identifies as, well whatever they please! Because it’s rumored Chrysler will being the Fiat 500 to the USA in a couple of years. Of course you’d probably see Peugeots sold in North America before a Citroen.

One of Automopedia’s favorite auto-fan sites, GayWheels.com, also conducted their own Top 10 LGBTQ Cars list, comprised in part from a poll and also based on vehicle sales. However, many of the cars from that particular study remain similar year in and out. Ledorga’s set up keeps the top car & brand for the Gay community fresh. And according to their rules it’s time to start choosing a “Gay Car & Brand” for 2011. Get cracking, European nations!
