Did ESPN Analyst Go To Far With Taco Eater Remark?

During last week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup seasoned commentator Bob Griese told a joke, which has stirred up controversy all over the web. When asked where driver Juan Pablo Montoya was, Griese remarked he was “out having a taco.” Montoya is Columbian, Columbians do not make tacos, at least not stereotypically. Griese apologized later in the broadcast, but many are calling or his head.

So, what do you think? Should Griese have been suspended for an apparent racist remark? His apology seemed very sincere – I mean, if your job was on the line you’d be friggin sincere too. In today’s world saying “I’m sorry I did that, I’m embarrassed that I did that” (thanks Imus) has become almost cliche & meaningless. Anything factor take into account – Taco Bell is a sponsor of NASCAR – was there a live read before the taco remark? Griese could have easily commented on Earnhardt Jr was nashing on a burrito. Or maybe Griese’s mind is going the way of Larry King.
