Traffic Barrel Creature and Other Roadside Oddities
Mr. & Mrs. pump are only a few of the very strange roadside oddities you will find traveling the world. The recent resurgence of Traffic Barrel Monster had us musing about other pieces of expressionist art you’ll find on I-95. I mean, keeping yourself occupied during a 2 week road trip when your friends are stoned can be difficult enough.

The barrel creature, and his recent partner Mz. Barrel, are the creations of North Carolina State student Joseph Carnevale, a self-proclaimed “vigilante artist.” Proving that the law has no respect for art, Joey was sentenced to 50 hours of community service for his “crime.” Hamlin Associates, the company who owns the construction barrels, did not press charges and apparently want their own version of the statue stating “If we’d known he’d do that good of work, we’d have given him the barrels.” The former & Mz. Barrel currently reside on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, NC.

One of our other favorite pieces comes in the form of Mr. & Mrs. Pump in Washington DC. It’s more interesting then the Monuments or the government.

Of course, there’s always the Mighty Brontosaurus, and apparently they are all alive and well in France. But you can’t hit them with your car, Dinosaurs have the right of way just as humans and bicycles do. Or maybe this sign stands for Dino Parking?
