The First Moon Landing – 40 Year Anniversary
Think driving in traffic on the 405 (on a Friday, nonetheless) takes skill – how about landing a vehicle on the surface of another planet?! Ok, we know, Earth’s moon isn’t technically a planet, it’s a satellite. But still, you gotta give it up to Buzz and the gang for their pin-point accurate squat onto a floating piece of rubble. They sure did better than Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon did in Apollo 13.
This week, America can celebrate the 40 year anniversary of our first (of several) lunar landings. I suppose it’s fitting the crew at Automopedia had a film outing this weekend to see Moon starring Sam Rockwell. We highly recommend it.

Even though NASA didn’t have a lunar rover up and running for our first visit, America went back a couple times with four-wheel drive and some scary looking cyber-claws to pick up rock samples.

It’s pretty intense when you think about it – 40 years ago, before public internet, microwaves, cable TV and cell phones, we were going to an alien surface on a regular basis. In fact, we were DRIVING on it! There’s not much traffic on the moon, but one over-sized pot hole could send you spinning into oblivion. Next time your partner complains about the price of gas, just tell em at least you aren’t paying for rocket fuel, by the gallon.
