Malcolm X-Marks The Spot – Mark X Concept Cars

Yesterday (May 19th) was Malcolm X Day – and to celebrate this belated birthday, we are taking a look at three Mark X concept cars- One famous luxury ride and two that never made it to production (within the US anyway) Ok, The Malcolm X title is a stretch, bare with us though, we dug up some good information.
Jaguar Mark X (MK10)

Pronounced ‘Mark Ten’ The Luxury Jaguar came to life in 1961 and went on until 1970. Jaguar’s Mark X is most famous for that front end which has continued in many similar forms up till today’s Jaguar XJ. The Mark X held a record for being the widest production Jaguar ever built until 1992. Mark X was also one of the first Jags to feature independent rear suspension – a anomaly in many cars during this time period.
Toyota Mark X Concept

The Mark X is a mid-size automobile from Toyota that is not a concept in Japan – but real life automobile. Introduced in 2004, the Mark X offers larger V6 engines with upwards of 250 horse power, its design and power are similar (though not identical) to the Avalon, which is available in the US and Canada. The Mark X is the successor to the Mark II, first introduced way back in 1968. Fun Fact: The Mark X is not pronounced “Mark Ten” but “Mark Ecks” Oh, those crazy Japanese – I really think so!
Lincoln Mark X Convertible Concept

Back in 2004, Lincoln introduced their Mark X convertible concept as a study in pure, integrated design both inside and out. It was a small coupe, especially for Lincoln, and featured ideas which would come later in the MKS and other new vehicle styles. Mark X is Lincoln’s first convertible with a retractable glass-roofed hard top. Obviously, Mark X draws us back to the 1950′s and 60′s Mark II (and so on) Continental convertibles, you know – with the suicide doors? The car never came to life, maybe because it was based on the rear-wheel-drive Thunderbird architecture, although it featured a 3.9-liter, 4-valve DOHC V-8 aluminum engine mated with 280 horse power.

I’ve never seen an Avalon look that sharp, they need to market that car in the US asap!
