This weekend marked the beginning of the 2009 Cleveland Auto Show (Feb 28th – March 8th), and with it comes a preview of what America has in store for the auto industry…if they find some more free cash. But don’t count The Big Three out, they have a few models to show off, along with almost 40 other global auto makers just a few miles away from Jacob’s Field (or Progressive, as it’s now known as). Have a look at what’s in store from the Land of Ohio.

Toyota’s Ride & Drive

For the second year in a row Toyota is bringing an all new Tundra, Tacoma and FJ Cruiser so customers can get a first hand look, and ride, from the off road vehicles. Each guest will get behind the wheel and on “a challenging off road course built with hundreds of tons of dirt and rock. The test track is filled with a number of challenging obstacles, including large moguls, steep berms, big hill, tunnel and teeter totter. Auto Show attendees can also test drive the Toyota Venza and Matrix on a course that highlights acceleration, braking, handling and steering. A FREE GIFT awaits everyone who participates, including children.” – Who wants a free child?

In Ohio college football fans bleed red (or maybe that’s blood?) – Ohio State University’s James Laurinaitis (Linebacker) and Chris Wells (Running Back) will be on hand to take pictures and sign autographs, along with a line up of green hybrid/electric automobiles.

The Big Three Failures Showing Off To Bitter Crowds.

Chrysler, Ford and Chevrolet have all closed factories/assembly lines/offices from Ontario, down through Michigan and around North East Ohio. So will former fans/employees of The Big Three attend in hopes to see where all that bailout money is going, or can they show up and throw rotted fruit/veggies at CDJ spokespeople?

Cleveland’s Auto Show is being promoted as being “The Most Anticipated Car Show” in the city’s history. We hope this is the case – as families across the nation have stronger negative opinions of car companies. Will this be an event which will showcase the first upswing in automobile popularity since the introduction of hybrid technology? We won’t hold our breath while waiting.
