2008 brought us some of the sexiest cars and future concepts from the automotive world. Money may be tight but that doesn’t stop some of the best luxury and sports car manufacturers from wowing us, as they did this past year. We take a look at some famous names from the auto industry and what they shared with car enthusiasts in 2008.

Lambo’s new Reventon started as a daring concept, but made its way to the production line and car show floor in 2008. This grasshopper-like front end, constructed from carbon fibers and based off jet fighter design, catches you eye and brings you back to the transparent rear motor cover. This compartment contains a 6.5 liter V12 with 650 hp @ 8000 rpm.

2008 Maserati GranTurismo

The 2008 Maserati GranTurismo is a breathtaking automobile, with strength underneath the body to knock your socks off. It’s powered by the classic Maserati 4.2-liter V8, pumping out 405 horsepower and a widely spread 339 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is about 178 mph with 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds.

Shelby GT500 Mustang

Shelby’s Supercharged Mustang GT500 is not only the star of the new Knight Rider TV series, it maintains a 5.4-liter V-8 engine, which comes out with 500 horsepower (go figure) and 480 lb-ft. of torque. The stainless steel dual exhaust adds to the sexiness of this American made automobile.

Peugeot doesn’t just make fantastic road bike – they also produce some of the fastest and hottest French sports cars the planet has ever seen. Their 308 RC Z concept for 2008 claims to “combine performance with driving pleasure.”

Rolls came out with their 100EX convertible and it was such a success they introduces a coupe version – the Rolls-Royce 101EX. Like the original concept, 101EX is built using the an aluminum frame construction, much like their Phantom limousine. This Rolls is also powered by the Phantom’s 6.75-liter V-12.

The 4.2-liter V8 engine makes 420 horsepower and 317 lb-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm, and it drives a standard six-speed manual transmission; an optional sequential manual transmission is also available.

Ferrari is tops when it comes to Italian auto engineering. Their 430 for 2008 boosts its power in its engine to a 4.3-liter V-8 giving 520 horsepower.

Porsche GT2

Porsche 997 GT2

Porsche is really stirring interest with their future Panamera four-door coupe – but this past year the auto maker introduced a new Porsche 997 Turbo – dubbed the GT2. With 530 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of torque under its (rear) hood you can expect to reach 100 mph in roughly 7 seconds.

  1. Lamborghini Reventón deserves the first place, this is the absolute speed, sport and luxury. The fastest ever Porsche’s model GT2 looks great. I liked the new Cadillac CTS-V 2009 too, but unfortunately it’s not here in the list, I’m also feeling sorry for Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
