Green Celebrity Rides

It’s very hip to be ‘Green’ these days, and the Hollywood influential are jumping on board and riding off with some of the best fuel economy money…err…technology can buy. But these environmental celebrity raiders still keep style in mind when it comes to shrinking their carbon footprint.

Toyota Prius

The Prius is a staple in the world of automotive eco-friendliness. Everyone from the mailman to politicians have been known to drive one, and the rich and famous of Hollywood also like to dabble in Toyota’s hybrid world. America Ferrera of Ugly Betty has one, as does Julie Roberts and funny man Danny DeVito. With Honda’s Insight coming out soon we’ll probably see paparazzi easily chasing down movie stars in a variety of hybrid sedans.

Chevy just released their plug-in hybrid, the Volt. Shia LaBeouf could use the help with one fighting the Decepticons. It’s American made, maybe we can get country music stars to rock one…if they make a Volt El Camino style.

GMC Yukon Hybrid/Chevy Tahoe Hybrid

When you need to prowl Beverly Hills in an SUV, but just have to, like, have the hottest Green rides in town, GM has you covered. Paris Hilton like totally won’t leave her compound without her puppy, her $5000 handbag or her Yukon Hybrid. The Jonas Brothers tour the country in their Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. Each will get you about 23 MPG on average. And as Paris herself said; “I came in the hybrid car, because I think that’s the new way to go…to save energy and, you know, save our earth from all this, you know, pollution.” From your mouth to God’s ears Ms. Hilton.

Ford Escape Hybrid/Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Politicians are the new celebrities and with an election coming up they need to show the environment is one of their paramount concerns. Barack Obama traded in his Jeep Grand Cherokee for a Ford Escape Hybrid. Fellow Democrats Hillary Clinton and Eco-Crusader Al Gore love the leg room in their Mercury Mariner Hybrids, which is essentially the same vehicle as Barack’s Ford, with a different emblem. All vehicles are probably armor plated, and each comes with a gruff Secret Service member behind the wheel.

BMW Hydrogen 7/Lexus RX400h Hybrid SUV

BMW Hydrogen 7

Comedian Will Ferrell was the first American to pick up one of BMW’s Hydrogen 7 luxury vehicles. Beamer’s Hydro-7 uses a 6 liter V-12 motor modified for combustion of both gasoline and hydrogen. Will is not the only star to rock a luxury green machine. Charlize Theron gets to film premiers in her Lexus RX400 h Hybrid SUV, which gets 27 MPG average. Mercedes Benz and BMW are in the process of coming out with a full line of Hybrid and electric vehicles, meant to drive you around in comfort while saving the O-Zone.

Oddballs – Tango 600

Tango 600

Commuter Cars out of Washington produces a one person vehicle that is only legal in certain states. But that doesn’t stop celebs like George Clooney from picking one up. The tiny electric vehicle can accelerate up to about 150 miles per hour on the highway. Not bad for a car without an internal combustion engine. While a Tango 600 will run the buyer about $108,000, a soon to be released Tango100 & 200 series will range from $20,000 to $40,000.
