Cars We Want at 2008’s Paris Motor Show

Paris Motor Show 2008

From concepts to classics, rare car dealers to gorgeous models (we mean the female types, not the vehicles) - 2008’s Paris Motor Show is coming, and to rev up for the October event, Automopedia is pitching some ideas of what we hope the monsieur’s et madam’s behind this event’s scenes will order up. Take a trip around the world in 6 automobiles.

Mazda1 City Car

Mazda1 will be the first production car utilizing Mazda’s Nagare designs. The Japanese auto maker claims this will be how their future vehicles will look. Expect the 2010 Mazda3 to follow in this line of framework. Mazda1 will most likely take over the Eastern and European markets, and hopefully these tiny Mazda vehicles will come to the states.

Audi TT Quattro Clubsport

A convertible Audi resembling something out of a Spielberg movie, this 300hp TFSI engined machine is Audi’s soon to be low-riding coupe. Recent Clubsport concept photos show off the topless frame and an even rounder evolution of Audi body work. You may see this Quattro hit the streets before year’s end - or at least the floors of Paris Motor Show ‘08!

Buick Wildcat

Buick’s Wildcat is part of the American car franchise’s “renaissance” - whether or not it will breath new life into the fading manufacturer’s popularity is yet to be seen, showing off the Wildcat’s 4.4L Supercharged V8 engine at the Motor Show will surely grab some attention. We’ve also heard circulating rumors of a possible T-Top edition (crosses fingers). The classic Riviera back end is also appealing, but watch out for the approximate $60k price tag. Could this be the end of Buick’s “cars your grandparents drive” phase?

BMW GINA Light

BMW Gina Light Concept

Are you interested in owning a car that changes shape both inside and out? Then prepare yourself for 22nd century vehicle technology today. BMW’s GINA (Geometry and Functions In Adaptions - sounds like a science experiment) is built on the Z8 platform, with fabric placed over a mesh work of metal wires controlled by eletro-hydraulic devices. The vehicle can change shape whenever it’s “pilot” feels necessary. It begs the question “do I take my BMW to the dry cleaners, or can I machine wash?” Be sure to check under the hood for “Inspected by No. 42″ stickers.

Citroen 2CV

Citroen 2CV Concept

Italian designer Paolo Martin captured the feel of a retro Citroen automobile with 2CV design and modern technology. He describes his drawings as “a reinterpretation of an unattractive yet brilliant vehicle…in total freedom and without external influences.” The original 2CV was touted for it “ugliness” and at the same time praised for experimental looks. Citroen produced a 2CV prototype in 1936 using a single front headlight. Martin’s concept has incorporated this feature, throwing in a single read light to boot. Citroen is not likely to have a live model ready for Paris ‘08, but we can dream…and we love surprises!

Scotland’s Supercar: The Dowdeswell and Hardie (D&H) Falen

The Dowdeswell and Hardie Falen

Scotland is producing a world-class sports car? They’re trying, and from what we’ve spied at Automopedia it looks as though manufacturer Dowdeswell and Hardie are heading in the right direction. The D & H Falen (named after a demon) if fierce from body to engine. Falen is confirmed for production - but only four units will be produced! Think the mark up will be a bit steep to own one of only four cars? Did we mention Falen’s shell will be constructed with carbon fiber? Stay tuned in October for the 2008 Paris Motor Show and keep an eye out for some of these experimental concepts
